I found a big bag of letter beads on sale at the craft store and I am trying to find creative uses for them. Here's a simple language work where children build words by sliding the letter beads onto a piece of pipe cleaner. It's sort of a variation on the movable alphabet, matching, and a fine motor beading activity. We have some first year students moving up from our toddler room this summer. Here is a simple sorting activity with dinosaur counters. They can be sorted by color or type of dinosaur.
That map activity is AWESOME! I love the recycled pill boxes. How did you do that? Would you leave the instructions in my comments section of my blog? I would love to do something similar!

Thanks!!

Thank you for sharing the spelling lesson and the command cards with the map. What a clever way to tie language with geography. I am looking forward to tryig these in our class after we have moved past our first couple of weeks this year.
ReplyDeleteI love the spelling bead activity. It totally rocks fine motor skills too! I am always trying to add to my making words center so this is perfect. This summer we have been using www.spellingcity.com a ton to keep our spelling skills sharp. I love that it also has a vocabulary section. My budding 5th grader has been working there for her EOG practice:) Thanks so much for shaing!

I've featured your beaded words idea (with links back to you) on my blog, Beyond Gold Stars. I love your idea! :)
ReplyDeleteI see that you use a lot of cards with photographs as materials in your classrooms, and I know that you prefer to use supplies that are as inexpensive as possible.
I share free printable spelling cards that are connected to the developmental stages of spelling on my website.
